These studies are development paintings that I worked on before creating the finished work in the illuminance series‚ this body of work involved the use of high key colour and more contrasting tones‚ again looking somewhat at space and the things that occupy the space. This was a different way of creating works for me‚ as I had no a clear idea of what I was trying to do with them. I had a few photos of power poles and just started making marks. A playful dance with colour and the way one colour interacts with another‚ creating colour discord and colour harmony at the same time. The emphasis in these works was less about subject matter which enabled me to focus on the use of colour. These works again see the inclusion of bees wax but in a more refined way‚ within this batch of wax I increased the amount of linseed oil I used which creates a smoother paint which slips and slides over the canvas‚ an amazing way to lesson your control on the way the paint settles into the weave of the canvas.
