I am a strong believer that there is great nuance in the Australian outback/desert landscape. Having said that, I am often overwhelmed by the idea that in country where the red dirt is evident, the land can reduced to very essential elements. In the case of this painting, 'Essential Desert', those essentials are the red of the earth and the blue of the sky - with the white fuzz of heat haze linking the two.
