‘Missive to Mondrian’ is one of a series of artworks inspired by Piet Mondrian, in a series I call, ‘Wrongdrian’: a contraction of the words ‘wrong-Mondrian’. It is an abstracted letter written to Mondrian arguing the case for the secondary colours over the primary colours, and using the strictly horizontal and vertical lines that he expounded in his series of compositions with red, blue, and yellow. 'Missive to Mondrian' employs structure and rigidity to criticise the very structure, rigidity, and convention - that I perceive - serves only to strangle my own creativity and expression.
The painting is continued around the edges of the canvas, is ready to hang, and signed on the back.
