This artwork is of a perennial favourite theme - spring blossom. Full of texture and layering, the piece includes brushwork, woodblock and lino printing.
Rich, warm gold splashes settle on hues of crimson and red. These are brushed over with a variety of darks, from Indian red to Storm blue, which give the piece its 'antique' feel within a limited colour palette.
Colour, texture, nature and springtime are the inspirations behind this work! Along with the intent to exploring new and different ways of playing with these things. For me, it's almost like revisiting a favourite Mary Oliver poem or Van Morrison album - there's familiarity and yet a difference in every experience of the same work. In my hands, the materials I use feel as comfortable as walking the dog by the river each weekend.
What I truly love about this colour combo is its ability to bring a sense of warmth and quiet joy to any space, whether in natural or artificial light. The gold tones and colour layering seep into the ether to generate a sense of cheerful ease and wellbeing.
