Acrylic on wood, ready to hang.
Signed on the front.
This painting addresses the relationship that artists have with the idea of success and the struggle to mediate their expectation in relation to what they might feel is due. The figure here has made sacrifices for his art, he is trying to prepare for potential disappointment, while simultaneously ensuring that this due diligence does not turn to doubt and jeopardise his dream. Respect is commanded in ones self first, the belief is that the others will follow.
Having done my time.
Having swallowed my savings.
Having deleted my heroes,
I was alone
with enough of a future left
to still make it,
but dreams are dangerous things
if you fail to match the reward
to the will.
