The stunning colourful wildflowers of Australia, the female form in bronze, free of decorative elements other than a pair of fairy/butterfly wings, juxtaposes the weight of metal against the idea of the weightlessness of flight. Nafisa presents natural beauty of our landscape as a foil for the soft feminine form, defined in strength by the use of bronze and complemented by the hardy structural shapes of the wildflowers and pods of the bush. Nafisa takes the traditional concept of painting being on a wall, to it being presented on a plinth and in a unique combination has created sculpture to give the ultimate 3D painting a narrative and substance in her series ...'Iron Fairies'

The soft, cuddly image of the Koala is what we all think of when it is referred to. The tragic images of this exceptionally quiet and harmless, tree-dwelling marsupial is what comes to mind when we remember the wildfires of Christmas 2019. We all can become numb with images of tragedy and destruction of life in any form....but we need to remember the fragility of of ecosystems and by celebrating the beauty of nature, i want to remind my audience of what could be lost. So creating art that celebrates beauty in nature, is an optimistic way of spreading that message.

Dramatic skies of Kenya can be clear and cobalt blue one moment and by late afternoon with the wet season approaching, suddenly the dramatic large white clouds gather and the distant crack of thunder and flash of lightning can be felt. Sudden changes, movement replacing the earlier calm, all remind us of how nature mimics the realities of the African nations, and there lies the narrative.Heavy contrast in tones create the drama as much as the limited palette of deep blues, whites and greys. The silhouette of the storks in the trees, the clouds suggesting storms of the rainy season were not over and the sparkling of light filtering through the trees signalling the last light of the day was drawing to a close all are part of the narrative. Unrest in the skies reflect the unrest on the ground in the African wilderness, yet the twinkling light pushing through reminds us that there is another day ahead and change is inevitable.Inspired by the natural beauty of our flora and fauna, ReAwakening gathers together several dozen different specimens of Australian Wildflowers into a larger than life group portrait. The extravaganza of colour is reminiscent of the corals and turquoise waters of the Great Barrier Reef immersing the viewer into the mural. in a much greater than life size composition highlights their individual and unique forms by against one of a different shape and size.
