Deep Sea Dragonfish Facts:
Scientific name: Grammatostomias flagellibarba
Inhabits the ‘Twilight’ and ‘Midnight Zones’. (Found mainly between depths of 500m and 1,500m below the surface. Has been found as deep as 5000m).
Did you know? It’s hard to find food in the dark, so the Dragonfish employs some help, in form of bioluminescence. They have specialised light-producing cells, known as photophores along its flanks, and in the barbell that dangles from its chin. The light helps to attract pray, which the Dragonfish impales with its very large teeth!
This painting is acrylic on stretched canvas, sealed with gloss varnish. It is wired and ready to hang.
The gallery-wrapped edges of the canvas are painted, so there is no need for framing.
